The Syrian regime has committed or sponsored, since
its invasion of Lebanon in
1975, several terrorist acts targeting Americans.
In 1983 and 1984, more than 300 Americans were killed
in suicide bombing attacks on U.S. Marine barracks, the
U.S. embassy and the U.S. embassy annex in Lebanon. A
U.S. Navy diver was shot during the 1985 terrorist hijacking
of TWA flight 847 in Beirut, and terrorists kidnaped and
held hostage several Americans in Lebanon during the course
of the last two decades.
The totalitarian regime in Syria has been building
and sponsoring terrorist groups in Lebanon since early
seventies. Syria
has invaded Lebanon gradually till it gained a complete
occupation over the country in 1990.
Lebanon, under Syrian occupation, was turned from a democratic
country to a totalitarian regime ruled by the Syrian army
and intelligence.

Even under the duress
of the current Syrian occupation, the Lebanese people
remain staunch friends of the US and must be helped to
return to the Free World. That can only happen with
the end of the Syrian occupation and the withdrawal of
the Syrian troops and their proxy terrorist groups

to Democracy by passing the Syria Accountability
Act
A bill entitled "Syria Accountability and
Lebanese Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2003" (H. R. 1828)
and (S. 982 ) was introduced April and May, 2003 to US
House Of Representatives and Senate.
This legislation aims to: "end Syrian support
for terrorism, end the Syrian occupation of Lebanon, stop
Syria's production of weapons of mass destruction, and
hold Syria accountable the illegal Syrian-Iraqi trade
which provided Iraq with the weapons that killed American
troops."
Like Iraq, Syria is guilty of all these
activities, but unlike
Iraq, Syria has escaped sanctions and remains the only
country branded as a terrorist state with whom the US
has diplomatic relations.

of Syria blasted the United States in remarks today
about the conflict in Iraq, saying that his country
wanted America to lose the war. "Syria has a national
interest in the expulsion of the invaders from Iraq
.." Mr. Sharaa said while speaking to Parliament,
praising the Iraqis' "courageous resistance."
