General John P. Abizaid
is a former Hoover National Security Affairs fellow who took over
as head of the U.S. Army's Central Command on July 7, 2003. Lebanese-American
Abizaid assumed command from General Tommy R. Franks in a ceremony
led by Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld in Tampa, Florida. |

Lt. Col. Victor DelNore is the former U.S Commander of the Nagasaki Military Government. "Victor
Delnore cherished democracy and its ideals. More than anything else,
he championed freedom and respect for the individual" (Lane Earns). |

Colonel James Jabara, of the U.S.
Air Force was a Korean War hero. He was the First American jet ace,
USAF F-86 Sabre pilot. He shot down 15 MIGs over Korea and was awarded
the Distinguished Service Cross. |

General George Joulwan commanded both
the U.S. and NATO forces in Europe. Major General Joulwan commanded
the 3rd Armored Division in 1988, and became Commanding General of
the V Corps in 1989. In 1990, General Joulwan was appointed Commander-in-Chief,
United States Southern Command. From 1993 -1997, he was Commander-in-Chief,
United States European Command and Supreme Allied Commander, Europe.
He was the first Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, to have commanded
at every level from platoon through corps. He drew the basis for the
historic NATO-Russian Founding Act signed in 1997 that ended the Cold

Navy Lt. Alfred Naifeh is a Navy hero.
In 1942 he was serving on the USS Meredith in the Solomon Islands.
The ship was struck by a massive Japanese air raid and rapidly sunk.
Naifeh, worked for two days and nights to locate his wounded shipmates
and place them aboard life rafts. He died on the third day of exhaustion
after fighting off shark attacks and rescuing many of his compatriots.
He was posthumously awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal and the
Purple Heart for his heroics. In 1944, one of the US Navy ships, the
destroyer USS Naifeh was named in his honor. |
